Abstract
Objective: To highlight the psychosocial burden in patients with vitiligo, including the prevalence and incidence of the disease and the effects on quality of life. Methods: First, to support the theoretical research, a literature review was carried out, based on available records of previous research, scientific articles, books and dissertations. Regarding the search strategy, a search was performed in October 2022 using the PubMed database with the following syntax: vitiligo AND incidence AND prevalence AND quality of life. Conditional filters for studies published between 2016 and 2022 were also used. Results: 46 articles were found from the search performed, of which 38 were consistently excluded by the authors. The reasons for this fact are because they are not fully accessible (A=18), because they are excellent theoretical articles (A=20) and because they do not provide epidemiology on the prevalence of variables in the data of this study. Following the methodological procedures above, 08 articles were selected for systematic review. Final considerations: The extent of psychosocial comorbidities summarized in this systematic review suggests that multidisciplinary treatment strategies (including medication and psychotherapy) and education in vitiligo are necessary to address the burden of this disease.
