Abstract
Objective: This work has as main objective, to mention the main environmental impacts caused by road undertakings and some solutions for their mitigation. Bibliographic review: A road infrastructure in Brazil related to issues of mitigation or environmental compensation has matured over time. It goes through stages of adaptation with the creation of specific legislation from regulatory and inspection bodies linked to Sustainable Development. Highways allow safety and comfort in the practice of coming and going to transport people and cargo. They are complex structures, designed to link two or more points in an agile and economical way. For these objectives to be achieved, it requires a viable infrastructure on three basic pillars: society, economy and environment, that is, based on Sustainable Development. Monitoring the environment on the road network is an arduous and continuous task with a periodic presentation of an environmental report of the services performed. Final considerations: The highway infrastructure projects carried out in the last decades by institutions focused on enforcing only paper, a license for construction and / or expansion of roads, in order to assert the real need to conserve natural resources.
