Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the main side effects of the use of oral hormonal contraceptive treatment in women, observing problems such as infertility, circular problems and stroke. Methods: This is an exploratory bibliographic research that uses the deductive method based on scientific articles, specifically focused on the health area, to carry out a systematic review. Results: Contraceptives provide women with care for their body, career, social life and personal development, with hormonal contraceptives orally being the most used in Brazil. The oral hormonal contraceptive was a great advance in medicine, with the purpose of preventing unwanted pregnancies, also treating some hormonal disorders such as irregular menstrual periods, infertility or low libido. However, care must be taken with the use, especially for a long period and without proper monitoring, as this practice can harm women in several ways. Final considerations: Noted that there is a need for awareness using the health professional to demonstrate the existence of contraceptive methods with milder side effects for women and the importance that the individuality of each must be taken into account when choosing the method.
