Abstract

Objective: To review in scientific publications factors associated with the severity and mortality of infectious respiratory disease. Caribbean in Health Sciences, Regional Library of Medicine. Results: In the Virtual Health Library, the search for articles was performed using the keywords Flu and Mortality, with 100 articles, of which 8 were selected. In the Scientific Electronic Library Online database, the keywords Flu and Humana were used, with 21 articles being found, 3 met the selection criteria. 11 articles were added for analysis. Final considerations: Cold regions and periods of the year with high or low humidity are common factors in the increase and aggravation of infectious respiratory diseases. The most vulnerable populations correspond to extreme age groups, however mortality is related to advanced age and pre-existing comorbidities, bringing attention to their surveillance and health care.
