Abstract
Objective: Check whether fitness and exercise directly contribute to the quality of life and treatment of leukemia in children. Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study of childhood leukemia cases in the State of São Paulo, reported in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2020, was carried out. color/race, sex and age ranges are included. Data were collected using the DATASUS TabNet program, according to hospitalizations in the State of São Paulo. Results: The white race had 11,626 cases. In relation to sex, men had the highest rate, with 10,325 cases and women, 8,041 cases. The age group from 5 to 9 years had the highest rate of hospitalization, with 6,475 cases. Conclusion: Although the World Health Organization recognizes that physical activity is a public health priority, there is no evidence to point to the effectiveness of exercise and exercise interventions for children undergoing cancer treatment, but research is needed to scientifically support this relationship.
