Abstract

Objective: Identify the incidence and prevalence of Poliomyelitis, emphasizing the importance of vaccination coverage. Methods: A search was carried out in the Pubmed database with the following syntax: poliomyelitis AND incidence AND prevalence, using an additional filter of studies that were published in 2022 and were available in full for free. The development of the study took into account the expected definition of this qualitative work, and as a research strategy, the bibliographic investigation and archival analysis techniques. Results: A search of the Pubmed database found 74 articles relevant to this topic, of which 56 articles were unanimously excluded, of which 18 articles underwent a thorough reading and 12 were selected. Final Considerations: The global polio eradication policy implemented in the 1980s with WHO support ensured broad vaccine coverage, leading to the elimination of the disease in more than 120 countries. However, with the high mobility of the global population, countries must strengthen epidemiological surveillance systems and maintain high universal vaccination coverage to effectively eradicate polio.
