Abstract
Objective: To provide, through a narrative review, a broad approach to the surgical treatment of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC). Bibliographic review: NMSC, which corresponds to Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC), is currently the most common cancer in the world in all age groups and in both sexes. This type of neoplasm has a lower mortality rate if treated correctly. The main known risk factor associated with the development of the disease is chronic and excessive exposure to the sun. Once diagnosed by the dermatologist, NMSC has a series of treatments available that vary according to the characteristics of each lesion. Surgery for both BCC and SCC is considered the treatment of choice by professionals in the field, with the highest cure rates and lowest recurrence rates. Final considerations: Early detection of NMSC cases and the institution of appropriate treatment in a timely manner is essential to avoid unfavorable outcomes. The surgical approach is currently considered the best therapeutic strategy for this type of neoplasm.
