Abstract
Objective: To discuss what the literature says about the experiences of family members of people with depression. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, the study sample consisted of 5 articles composing the tables of results and discussions and 7 articles for the construction of discussions and approaches to the theme. An analysis of the data obtained from the selected studies was carried out, and the Thematic Content Analysis was applied. Results: Family functions assume an increasingly decisive and active role in terms of identifying the care needs of individuals and the population, as well as in the promotion and protection of the health of individuals in its different dimensions. Final considerations: Family care is, therefore, a fundamental component of the health system. The findings of this study may contribute to give greater visibility to the need for support to family members who care for and live with a family member in depression and who need attention.
