Abstract

Objective: To verify adherence to systemic arterial hypertension treatment and associated factors. Methods: This is a quali-quantitative study, conducted with 141 hypertensive individuals, of both sexes, aged between 18 and 90 years. Socioeconomic-demographic questionnaires and the SAHTAQ questionnaire (Systemic Arterial Hypertension Treatment Adherence Questionnaire) were applied. Data were analyzed using absolute and relative values and Pearson's correlation test. Results: The sample consisted of 89 women with an average age of 61.66 years; and 52 men with a mean age of 59 years. Most of these hypertensive individuals were illiterate or had incomplete primary education, monthly income between 1-3 minimum wages, were married or had a consensual union, 54.6% declared themselves white, 33.33% of hypertensive individuals were aged between 51 and 60 years , 87.9% regularly use medication, 53.2% do not exercise together with treatment for SAH. Conclusion: The age group most affected by SAH was 51 to 60 years old, with a higher prevalence in females, affecting more the low-income population, associated with a low frequency of physical activity, but with the majority presenting regular use of medication, characterizing high adherence to treatment.
