Abstract

Objective: To describe the Nurse's role in the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with a descriptive and exploratory approach, through a search in the databases Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel System Online, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and Scientific Electronic Library Online, via Virtual Health Library, with Health Science Descriptors: “Nursing”, “pressure injury”, “pressure ulcer”, “therapy” and “prevention”. Results: A total of 13 documents were reached. It was verified that the nurse must act with care aimed at maintaining a good integrity of the skin, through skin hydration, care in terms of sensitivity, observing the aspects of odor and exudate, in case there is already a lesion and its state in general. Final considerations: The nurse has several distinct functions, including the proper use of dressings and coverings available on the market, the correct application of scales and protocols for risk identification, the use of pads and equipment with the aim of protecting and reducing pressure on the body, constantly evaluating the skin, looking for new lesions and taking care of the patient's skin, keeping it hydrated.
