Abstract
Objective: Investigate complex and emerging phenomena in the context of organizations, integrating Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) and Cartography. Literature review: The integration of these approaches allows for exploring synergies and complementarities, providing valuable insights for understanding and managing runaway objects and autonomous teams. We discuss the main concepts and principles of CHAT and Cartography, the resistances and challenges related to cultural, political, and epistemological differences between the approaches, and the potential contributions of this integration for research and practice in organizations. Final considerations: The integration of CHAT and Cartography offers an innovative and promising approach to studying complex phenomena, fostering innovation and transformation in the study of runaway objects and autonomous teams. Future research directions include exploring other combinations of theories and methods, as well as developing capacity-building and training strategies for researchers interested in exploring this integration.
