Abstract

Objective: To identify the predictors of success in the extubation process in the adult patient, identifying which are the predictors of success in the extubation of the adult patient. Methods: Integrative literature review, with a time frame referring to the years between 2017 and 2021. The MEDLINE, LILACS and BDENF databases were searched, using the descriptors “Weaning from the Respirator”, “Ventilator Weaning”, “Disconnection of the Ventilator ”, “Respiração Artificial”, “Respiration Artificial”, “Respiración Artificial” and “Weaning”, “Weaning”, “Destete”. The selected articles were published in English, Portuguese and Spanish, available in full for free, which answered the guiding question. Results: The rapid shallow breathing index (RSBI), when combined with other biosignals, has better specificity in predicting outcome. Cardiopulmonary ultrasound was higher in patients who failed the spontaneous breathing test (SBT). There was no difference in baseline heart rate, systolic and diastolic pressure between the study groups. Final considerations: The combination of multiple factors proved to be efficient in predicting ventilatory weaning, evaluating several clinical and biochemical parameters capable of contributing to the prognosis, with the RSBI being the most used factor.
