Abstract

Objective: To identify the scientific evidence of the association between overweight shift work, obesity and health impacts. Methods: Integrative review of the three-year period between 2019 and 2021 with original articles published in the MEDLINE, PUBMED and SciELO databases. Results: Eight observational studies were selected in this integrative review that addressed the prevalence of overweight and obesity in shift workers, some of these articles also cited parameters such as abdominal circumference, diabetes mellitus, systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) and hours of sleep. It was noticed that shift work was associated with increased body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity in shift workers, when compared to normal shift workers. Final considerations: The studies that make up this review correlate to greater impacts on health and abdominal obesity more often in shift workers than in non-shift workers.
