Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effects of immunonutrition in supporting treatment and its benefits in cancer patients. Bibliographic review: Glutamine helps to improve the immune system as it is the preferred source of fuel for enterocytes, lymphocytes and macrophages. And because it is important for metabolic processes, including protein synthesis, it helps to recover and increase muscle mass. Arginine, on the other hand, positively influences the tissue regeneration process, making the healing process even more efficient, with a lower rate of complications and postoperative fistulas. Omega-3 acts by suppressing the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes, stimulating inflammatory mediator pathways, slowing tumor growth. Final considerations: Immunonutrition plays a significant role in the nutritional support of patients, being widely adopted due to its ability to contribute to the improvement of the clinical status of individuals. This manifest itself through the modulation of not only immunological, but also metabolic and inflammatory processes. In addition, immunonutrition is particularly valuable in situations where the nutritional status of patients is depleted, providing a diverse range of benefits during the treatment of various neoplasms.
