Abstract
Objective: To describe the profile of patients who sought prophylaxis for the human immunodeficiency virus at a Testing and Counseling Center. Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study of a retrospective nature, based on the analysis of the reception records of patients over 18 years of age who used pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEP), during the year 2022. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used, adopting the value of P<0.05 as a criterion for analysis of statistical significance. Results: During the analyzed period, 337 patients were seen, with approximately 87% of patients on PEP and the other 13% on PrEP. A considerable number of omitted information suggests underreporting. Only 7 of the 20 variables analyzed were considered statistically significant when compared with the variable “Prophylaxis Mode”. Conclusion: Although the analyzed service is of great importance in preventing infection in the interior of the Amazon, many challenges still persist, which demonstrates the need to invest in technical and social support in order to improve information records and strengthen the professional-patient relationship.
