Abstract
Objective: To present, through scientific evidence, the effects of omega 3 supplementation in children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Methods: Theoretical review of the integrative type, comprising studies published in the decade between 2013 and 2022, indexed in PubMed, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) databases. Original articles were included, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, aligned with the research theme. Six articles were selected to compose this review. Results: Five randomized double-blind clinical studies and one open randomized study were included, which addressed the effects of omega 3 supplementation in children and adolescents. Only one of the studies did not report improvement in any of the evaluated aspects. In the other studies, positive outcomes were presented in at least one of the observed aspects, such as behavior, vision, cognition, work improvement or ADHD symptoms themselves. Final considerations: Although most studies have shown a positive outcome in at least one of the aspects studied, further studies are needed in this area, with a larger number of participants and standardized dosages, so that more conclusive results can be achieved.
