Abstract

Objective: To understand the perception of health professionals in caring for women in situations of induced abortion. Methods: Study a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study, carried out with six health professionals. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, carried out individually and were analyzed using discursive textual analysis. Data collection was carried out between September and November 2022. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: In situations where abortion is spontaneous or legally authorized, professionals avoid judgment, however, when it is provoked, they express different opinions. The “non-judgment” was highlighted as important by professionals, however, some of them attribute that the woman will go through divided moral judgment, making reference to what they believe to be a wrong attitude on the part of the woman. Still others revealed difficulties in filing a police report, that is, continuing the situation that could incriminate the action taken by the woman who caused the abortion.  Conclusion: It is up to health institutions, together with public authorities, to ensure quality care that seeks to meet both the physical and psychological needs of these women.
