Abstract
Objective: To analyze the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on human rotavirus vaccination and its consequences. Methods: This study analyzed data obtained from DATASUS for the period between 2018 and 2022, in which vaccination coverage rates, hospitalizations, and mortality related to this pathology were observed. Ethical approval was not required as the data are in the public domain. Results: During the pandemic, various measures were taken to contain the spread of COVID-19, directly impacting the vaccination coverage against human rotavirus, reaching the lowest result since the first years after the implementation of this immunization in 2021 (71.80%). Additionally, during this period, there was also a decrease in the number of hospitalizations due to acute diarrhea caused by rotavirus. Finally, there was a 37% increase in mortality. Conclusion: It was observed that the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted human rotavirus vaccination, necessitating the adoption of measures to prevent the loss of herd immunity.
