Abstract

Objective: To assess, through scientific literature, the occurrence of the invasive exotic species A. fulica in the states of the Northeast region of Brazil, analyzing the focus of the studies, years, and states of the publications. Methods: This constitutes an integrative literature review conducted via articles published between 2000 and 2023 on "Google Scholar." The descriptors used in this research encompassed the scientific name "Achatina fulica" and the specific terms "Alagoas," "Bahia," "Ceará," "Maranhão," "Paraíba," "Pernambuco," "Piauí," "Rio Grande do Norte," and "Sergipe" anywhere within the publications. Articles with free access to the complete text and written in English or Portuguese were included. Additionally, only articles focusing on the African snail, with explicit descriptions of their occurrence locations, were selected. Results: Seventeen articles meeting the selection criteria were chosen, representing a negligible total for the likely distribution of the snail in the region. States with studies displayed limited emphasis on the mollusk's distribution. Final considerations: The scarcity of research addressing the precise distribution and potential risks associated with the snail's presence underscores the necessity for further studies, particularly in the states of Ceará, Maranhão, and Rio Grande do Norte.
