Abstract

Objective: To elucidate the impact of fasting on the stimulation of NK cells in cancer treatment. Literature Review: Natural Killer (NK) cells play a crucial role in innate immunity, particularly in the elimination of tumor cells. In this context, fasting and fasting-mimicking diets (FMDs) can enhance NK cell activity, fostering a tumor microenvironment less conducive to growth. By modulating immune response, these practices reduce stimuli that promote cancer development while potentially minimizing the adverse effects common in oncological treatments, such as chemotherapy. Thus, integrating nutritional and immunological strategies positions fasting as a potential adjuvant in anticancer therapies, emphasizing the need for personalized adaptations to ensure both safety and maximization of treatment benefits. Final considerations: While fasting offers benefits in cancer treatment, such as strengthening NK cell response, it is essential to carefully assess risks and adjust fasting protocols, especially for advanced cancer patients, ensuring personalized monitoring to maximize therapeutic effects and minimize potential complications.
