Abstract

Objective: To elucidate the relationship between childhood obesity and precocious puberty, highlighting the hormonal and metabolic mechanisms involved. Literature review: Childhood obesity has significant implications for children's physical and metabolic health, being associated with conditions such as dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases in adulthood. Furthermore, obesity contributes to the development of precocious puberty, especially in girls, due to the influence of metabolic and hormonal alterations, such as hyperinsulinemia, hyperandrogenism, and leptin resistance. These dysfunctions impact the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, stimulating the production of sex hormones and accelerating pubertal maturation. Such complications underscore the need for early interventions to minimize the negative effects on the health and quality of life of these children. Final considerations: The relationship between childhood obesity and precocious puberty is associated with metabolic, cardiovascular, and psychological risks, as well as impacting growth and bone development. Future studies are needed to elucidate interventions that may mitigate the adverse effects of this condition, promoting comprehensive health for obese children.
