Abstract

Objective: To evaluate indicators that may indicate a risk situation for the occurrence of abandonment of treatment for Acute Chagas disease (ACD) in the Pará state between 2012 and 2023. Methods: This is an epidemiological, descriptive, quantitative and ecological study, based on data available from the National System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN) and the Department of Information Technology of the Unified Health System (DATASUS). Results: Between 2012 and 2023, 3017 cases of ACD were reported in the Pará State, the year 2023 with the highest occurrence. The municipalities with highest records of the disease were Ananindeua, Abaetetuba, Breves and Belém. The sociodemographic profile of the confirmed cases was mostly male (54.36%), aged 20-39 years (34.36%), self-declared brown (82.98%) and with low level of education (91.9%). Regarding the clinical profile, in most cases the reported route of infection was through contaminated food and was diagnosed through laboratory tests. Conclusion: The observed data indicate that the indicators of greatest risk for ACD are similar to those observed in other infectious diseases, which suggests a higher risk for the occurrence of treatment abandonment. The present study can help in the generation of health actions to try to reduce the occurrence of this problem.
