Abstract
Objective: To analyze elderly hospitalizations in Minas Gerais, investigating the impact of physical activity on their health. Methods: This study analyzed hospitalizations in Minas Gerais (2023-2024) using data from Hospital Information System / Unified Health System (SIH/SUS) available on DATASUS. The analysis took place in December 2024, including variables such as age group and causes of hospitalizations. The data was organized and analyzed in graphs using Microsoft Excel. Results: Osteoarthritis accounted for approximately 45% of hospitalizations due to musculoskeletal issues, while 49% of hospitalizations due to fractures in the elderly were caused by femur fractures. Among mental disorders, dementia and Alzheimer's were the main causes. Conclusion: There is a high number of elderly hospitalizations. Physical activity could possibly contribute to a reduction in these hospitalizations, as it has beneficial effects on musculoskeletal and mental. More studies should be conducted to directly link these variables and their effects on elderly well-being.
