Abstract
Objective: To describe the use of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in the treatment of radiation-induced xerostomia, highlighting its efficacy and importance in managing the condition and improving patients' quality of life. Methods: This study is an integrative literature review with qualitative analysis, where searches were conducted based on articles published between 2020 and 2024 in the PubMed (MEDLINE), Scielo, and Google Scholar databases, using descriptors such as "xerostomia", "oncological treatment", "salivary glands", "laser therapy", among others. Results: Xerostomia is a common condition in patients undergoing radiation therapy in the head and neck region. LLLT is an effective therapeutic alternative for alleviating symptoms, improving salivary flow, and promoting cellular regeneration. The dosage, duration, and frequency of sessions are essential factors for the success of treatment. Final considerations: LLLT is a promising alternative for treating post-radiation xerostomia, improving patients' quality of life. However, it is essential to follow specific application protocols and conduct further studies to establish precise parameters. Healthcare professionals, especially dentists, play a fundamental role in managing xerostomia.
