Abstract

Objective: To analyze the impact of health education programs on adherence to prenatal care. Methods: An integrative literature review, following six methodological stages, was conducted using Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde, National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Healtha and Scientific Eletronic Library Online databases, with descriptors such as Health Education, Prenatal Care Adherence, and Effectiveness. Fifteen studies published between 2015 and 2024, from low, middle, and high-income countries were selected and analyzed after applying inclusion (full texts, Portuguese/English languages) and exclusion criteria (duplicates, thematic irrelevance). Results: Multifaceted structured educational interventions proved effective, including community programs, technology-based strategies, like PRENACEL (SMS messages) achieved 96.6% attendance at ≥6 consultations, and male partner involvement, proved effective. Approaches adapted to sociocultural contexts enhanced maternal knowledge and empowerment. Final considerations: Health education programs are crucial for improving prenatal adherence, particularly when integrated with technology and public policies addressing social inequalities. Limitations include a lack of studies in high-income countries and the need for more robust clinical trials to validate interventions.
