Abstract

Objective: To assess the implications of Borderline Personality Disorder on the social lives of patients. Methods: An integrative literature review was adopted, since it is a methodological strategy recognized for its effectiveness in the systematization and rigorous synthesis of data, following the following phases: 1) elaboration of the guiding question; 2) literature search through the chosen databases; 3 and 4) collection and analysis of the selected articles, based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria chosen by the researcher; 5) discussion of the results based on the studies and the objective of the work; and 6) presentation of the review. Results: It was found that 53.3% (n=8) of the studies analyzed the impacts of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) on the mental and emotional health of patients, highlighting feelings such as fear of social rejection, extreme emotional swings, and difficulty in maintaining interpersonal relationships. 46.6% (n=7) of the studies focused on the impacts of treatment, addressing challenges such as side effects of medications, frustration with prolonged therapy, and the need for constant adjustments to clinical protocols. Final considerations: Given this scenario, the adoption of integrated therapeutic strategies, combining psychotherapy and pharmacological interventions, is essential to stabilize symptoms and promote patient functionality.
