Abstract

Objective: To analyze how mobile applications can benefit the monitoring of women with gestational diabetes. Methods: An integrative literature review, carried out in six stages, on the Medical Publisher (PubMed); Virtual Health Library (VHL); The Portal for Life Sciences (LIVIVO) and Brazil Scientific Library Online (SCIELO) data platforms, based on a search using Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) in English associated with the use of the Boolean operator (AND) - (Diabetes, Gestational) AND (Mobile Applications). After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a final sample of 18 articles was obtained. Results: The effectiveness of using mobile applications was demonstrated through different dimensions. The studies showed an improvement in glycemic control, a reduction in negative obstetric outcomes and an impact on adherence to healthy lifestyle habits. There was also an improvement in maternal confidence and self-awareness for diabetes self-management and greater engagement in prenatal care appointments. Final considerations: The results obtained revealed the clinical effectiveness of mobile apps in monitoring women with gestational diabetes, demonstrating benefits not only for glycemic control, but also for maternal health in general. However, further research is needed to consolidate the evidence and overcome the limitations identified in the study.
