Abstract

Objective: To identify, in the specialized literature of the field, the understanding and effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in the treatment of Social Phobia, as well as possible contributions of psychopharmacological interventions in this condition. Bibliographic review: Social Phobia is understood as a disorder characterized by a persistent fear of social interactions or performance situations, leading to dysfunctional cognitions, heightened anxiety, and avoidance of social situations. CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) has proven effective in restructuring cognitive patterns, using strategies such as psychoeducation, cognitive techniques, social skills training, exposure, and relapse prevention. Clinical assessment precedes the therapeutic plan and considers the patient's needs, and can be applied in individual or group contexts, either in-person or remotely, without loss of efficacy. Moreover, studies show that the combination of CBT and pharmacotherapy is effective in reducing anxiety symptoms. Final considerations: CBT presents a comprehensive model for understanding Social Phobia and offers effective interventions for its management and treatment. It is supported by numerous studies, and its recommendation as a first-line approach by clinicians is well-documented in the literature. Finally, the combination of CBT-based psychotherapy and psychopharmacological interventions has shown beneficial outcomes, as reported by various authors.
