Abstract
Objective: To analyze the impacts of encopresis on the experience and feelings of children and their families. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, with articles published between 2005 and 2025, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and with full text available. The following guiding question was used: How does encopresis affect the feelings and experiences of children and their families? The bibliographic search was carried out in the following databases: Medical Publisher (PUBMED), Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and CAPES Journal Portal, using the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) in English: "Encopresis" and "Children", using the Boolean operator "AND". Results: 20 articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, in which the feelings experienced by children diagnosed with encopresis were: fear, anxiety, depression, insecurity, shame, internalization and externalization problems, low self-esteem and social isolation. In addition, a category directed to the experiences of these individuals and their families was highlighted, and the presence of family conflicts and marital problems could be elucidated with a higher percentage. Final considerations: Encopresis has negative impacts on the lives of children and their families, so that the systematization of research is essential for sensitive treatment.
