Abstract

Objective: To report a clinical case of oral rehabilitation with an implant-supported fixed partial denture in an elderly patient, with a focus on aesthetics and functionality. Case detail: The patient is a 73-year-old female who was dissatisfied with the aesthetics of her existing implants. During the anamnesis, important information regarding her general health and pre-existing systemic conditions was gathered, which guided the dentist's clinical approach. Clinical and radiographic examinations revealed bone loss in the regions of teeth 17 and 27, a root remnant of tooth 16, implants in the regions of teeth 15, 14, 22, 23, and 24, and intra-radicular retainers in teeth 11 and 21. After a thorough evaluation and in accordance with the patient’s wishes, the proposed treatment was an implant-supported fixed partial denture, which met her aesthetic and, more importantly, functional expectations. Final considerations: The implant-supported prosthesis proved to be the best choice, as it provided a safe and effective rehabilitation, restoring masticatory and speech function, improving the aesthetics of the smile, and thereby helping to reestablish the patient’s self-esteem. All of this was achieved safely, respecting the limitations imposed by her systemic condition and age.
