Abstract
Objective: Describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of children admitted with severe acute respiratory syndrome, symptoms, and hospitalization in Intensive Care Unit. Methods: Cross-sectional study, with data from OPENDATASUS that included children aged 0 to 11 years, hospitalized in a public pediatric hospital in Macapá, Amapá, Brazil, between 2021 and 2024. Results: The majority of participants are male; the main clinical manifestations presented in the study were: cough (45%), fever (43%), runny nose (31%), headache (31%), dyspnea (22%). It is observed that most patients, around 60%, were hospitalized and the prevalent age group admitted to the ICU was 0 to 4 years old (around 60%). Conclusion: This study showed a predominance of male hospitalizations, with children under two years old being more affected by cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and several cases requiring ICU admission. More studies will be needed for a better understanding of the seasonality of flu syndromes in the pediatric and Amapá populations.
