Abstract

Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic and clinical profile and the quality of life of patients with leprosy treated at a hospital in Paraíba, Brazil. Methods: A quantitative study was conducted with leprosy patients using a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire and the WHOQOL-BREF instrument to assess quality of life. Results: Thirty-two patients participated, with a mean age of 48.4 years, predominantly women, of mixed race, with incomplete elementary education and low income. Regarding the clinical profile, most cases presented the Virchowian and multibacillary forms; among them, 51.7% experienced leprosy reactions, and 50% had completed treatment. Based on the scores, patients’ quality of life was classified as intermediate, with the social relationships and psychological domains contributing positively to a better quality of life, while the physical domain showed lower scores. Conclusion: Most patients were in situations of social vulnerability and presented multibacillary clinical forms of leprosy. Quality of life was classified as intermediate, with positive influence from the social relationships and psychological domains. These findings highlight the need for health promotion strategies to strengthen self-care and self-esteem, as well as to raise awareness among families and society to provide comprehensive and supportive care for patients facing these challenges.
