Abstract

Objective: To analyze snakebite accidents reported in the municipality of Belém, Pará, Brazil, between 2019 and 2024, considering frequency, temporal distribution, and sociodemographic characteristics of the affected individuals, in order to support prevention and public health surveillance actions. Methods: This is an epidemiological, observational, descriptive, retrospective, and longitudinal study based on secondary data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN/DATASUS). Sociodemographic variables (age, sex, race/color, and education level) and epidemiological variables (type of snake and clinical outcome) were analyzed. Data were filtered using the SINAN tabulator and analyzed in Microsoft Excel 365. As publicly available, non-identifiable data were used, ethical approval was waived in accordance with Resolution No. 510/2016. Results: From 2019 to 2024, 1,835 snakebite cases were reported, showing an increasing trend. Most cases occurred in males, individuals aged 20–39 years, and people of mixed race. A high proportion of education level was recorded as ignored, with a marked increase in cases from 2022 onwards. Conclusion: Snakebite accidents in Belém have shown progressive growth, mainly affecting young men, highlighting the need for preventive actions and improved epidemiological surveillance.
