Experiences in legal psychology: report of an internship in a youth protection servisse

Abstract

Objective: To report on the experience carried out in an institutional shelter for male adolescents, aged 12 to 17, in situations of social vulnerability, within the scope of an internship in Legal Psychology, emphasizing actions to strengthen bonds, socio-emotional development, and the promotion of citizenship. Experience report: This is an account of an experience developed by Psychology interns through thematic workshops, discussion groups, collective activities, and graphic productions. The interventions addressed emotional regulation, interpersonal relationships, identity, sexuality, rights, and duties. Playful resources were used to encourage the expression of feelings and stimulate socialization. Observations were recorded in a field diary. The adolescents demonstrated active participation, although some meetings were marked by conflicts, tensions, and episodes of aggression, revealing challenges of the institutional context. Despite this, moments of cooperation, integration, and significant learning were observed. The activities broadened the expression of personal experiences and promoted reflections on citizenship, autonomy, and life projects, contributing to the development of socio-emotional skills. Final considerations: It can be considered that spaces for qualified listening favor the expression of potential and the re-signification of experiences. The experience was equally formative for the interns, highlighting the relevance of Legal Psychology in institutional care and the integral development of adolescents.
