Abstract
Objective: To report the application of the nursing process in the care of a patient undergoing temporary artificial cardiac pacing in a tertiary hospital. Case details: This is a case report based on the application of the Nursing Process grounded in the theory of Basic Human Needs, encompassing five interrelated, interdependent, recurrent, and cyclical stages: nursing assessment; nursing diagnosis; nursing planning; nursing implementation; and nursing evolution. Experienced by nursing residents in emergency and urgent care in an emergency room of a tertiary public hospital in northern Paraná. Final considerations: This study allowed for reflection on the complexity involved in temporary artificial cardiac pacing, its indications, and the care required in the pre-, intra-, and post-procedure periods, broadening the practical understanding of nursing care with theoretical and scientific foundations, and instrumentalized by the taxonomies North American Nursing Diagnosis Association, Nursing Interventions Classification, and Nursing Outcomes Classification.
