Abstract
Objective: To analyze the implementation of the Pharmaceutical Service for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) in an Emergency Care Unit in a city in the state of Pará, considering the organization of care, adherence to therapy, and the incorporation of technologies. Methods: A qualitative-quantitative, action-research study was conducted in an Emergency Care Unit. Participants were HIV-positive individuals indicated for PEP use. The intervention included the implementation of the Pharmaceutical Service for PEP, with health education actions, pharmacotherapeutic follow-up, adherence assessment using the Morisky-Green test, and analysis of seroconversion occurrence. Results: A predominance of heterosexual women, of mixed race, and with secondary/technical education was observed. In-person and telehealth pharmacotherapeutic follow-up resulted in 70.6% adherence and no seroconversion. Conclusion: The implementation of the pharmaceutical consultation room, the Standard Operating Procedure, and care technologies improved workflows and standardized procedures. Health education broadened the community's knowledge and strengthened multiprofessional integration. The findings highlighted the relevance of pharmaceutical services in combined prevention, adherence, and the absence of seroconversion in strengthening the PEP care pathway within the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS).
