Abstract
Objective: To develop an educational technology to guide health professionals on the decannulation of tracheostomized children. Methods: Methodological technological development study conducted in a pediatric surgical ward of a public reference hospital in the Northern Region of Brazil. The study was developed in three stages: integrative review, field research, and technology development. Twenty physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, and medical professionals participated, selected by convenience sampling. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Most participants were female (90%), physiotherapists (65%), had a specialization degree (60%), and temporary employment contracts (80%). All recognized the importance of endoscopic airway assessment and clinical warning signs during occlusion, while 85% recognized the need for progressive occlusion testing. There was disagreement regarding the observation period after decannulation: 50% indicated 24 hours and 50%, 48 hours. An educational technology consisting of an instructional video, cartoon, infographic, and podcast was developed. Conclusion: Adequate knowledge and divergences were identified, reinforcing the need for continuing education and standardized practices. The technology developed may support professional training.
