Abstract
This article sought to report and discuss a case of restrictive cardiomyopathy due to endocardiomyofibrosis. A 63-year-old female patient, from the interior of the state of Amazonas (AM), was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy due to endocardiomyofibrosis about 20 years ago. Over the past three years, she has progressively worsened her symptoms of heart failure, even using optimized diuretic and dietary therapy. Attended in an outpatient consultation in a tertiary hospital, for clinical evaluation, being decided by his hospitalization to perform in-hospital therapy. With intravenous diuretic optimization, the patient began to present hypokalemia refractory to peripheral and oral potassium replacement and started to show signs of phlebitis at the site of venous potassium infusion, requiring central venous access for hydroelectrolytic replacement. After a few days, she developed high fever, generalized rash, pain and secretion at the site of the central venous access, being diagnosed with bloodstream infection caused by the toxic staphylococcal shock syndrome. The study shows the occurrence of cardiomyopathy due to myocardial fibrosis in a 63-year-old woman, as well as the importance of diagnosing this disease for proper early treatment to avoid possible complications.
