Abstract
The present study aims to discuss the trajectory of the sociology discipline, considering that sociology is marked by comings and goings in the basic education curriculum. Sociology allows the individual to understand social relations, social groups, that is, to form citizens more aware of the events that arise in society. In order to do so, we sought to traverse the teaching of sociology with its various insertions and withdrawals from the curriculum, as well as changes in the law and finally present the main challenges, current and future perspectives for Brazilian school sociology. For the accomplishment of this study we opted for the bibliographical research and we start from studies of Amaury César Morais, Mário Bispo dos Santos among other authors. However, with the result of the study, it is concluded that even in the face of the challenges presented, the discipline of Brazilian school sociology finds itself in a moment, perhaps as a watershed and it will be the pressure with the secretaries for the increase of the weekly classes of sociology, and trained professionals require the presence of a trained teacher in the area teaching content.
