Abstract

This article sought to present the strategies of speech therapy and the care described in the literature for the management of dysphagia in patients with COVID-19. This is an integrative literature review conducted in September 2020 in the PubMed / Medline, Lilacs, Scopus and Web of Science databases, using the descriptors “COVID-19”, “SARS-Cov-2”, “therapy”, “Speech therapy” and “deglutition disorders”, combined using the AND and OR operators. Studies were included that addressed the topic of interest, research in humans with COVID-19; publications available in Portuguese, English or Spanish, studies like original articles, case control, cross-sectional and case studies. Titles and abstracts were read, excluding those that did not fit the research. Three articles were selected, whose results showed a relationship between the appearance of dysphagia and COVID-19, due to orotracheal intubation and the neurological damage caused. Care with care and the need for follow-up were also addressed. Sparse literature was found in relation to speech-language assessment procedures and intervention strategies, but they suggest sensory stimulation activities that promote the strengthening of the muscles involved in swallowing, in addition to care strategies that aim to protect the patient and professionals.
