Abstract
Objective: Assess the implications of SARS-CoV-2 infection in pregnancy, as well as the recommendations and evidence on clinical management to clarify the proper obstetric care. Literature review: The COVID-19, a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus, is considered a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). The pathophysiological peculiarities and clinical characteristics of the disease still have limited data in the literature, as well as about aspects related to prenatal care, vertical transmission, the mode of delivery, breastfeeding, and complications in pregnant and postpartum women. However, it is currently known that there is a predominance of respiratory symptoms and a prevalence of severity in risk groups. Final considerations: The rates of complications and repercussions of the disease in pregnant and postpartum women are similar to the rates of non-pregnant women, allowing prenatal care, delivery and breastfeeding to continue without significant losses and safety regarding the course of pregnancy and the puerperium.
