Abstract
Objective: This work sought to analyze, through bibliographic research, the effectiveness of bariatric surgery in the remission of DM2 in obese patients, exposing the various existing surgical techniques, as well as their particularities and efficiency. Bibliographic review: Obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) are public health problems worldwide, which demand high costs for their treatment and can bring several disorders to the patient's life. Currently, DM2 can be treated with medications and surgical techniques, in addition to changes in lifestyle. Bariatric surgery has been shown to be the best option, depending on the patient, in the remission of this disease. Surgical procedures are available that result in weight loss and a considerable decrease in the glycemic index, changing the morbidity and prognosis of this disease. Final considerations: It was possible to conclude that bariatric surgery is more effective than non-surgical treatment for DM2, with Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass surgery being the most used and with satisfactory results.
