Abstract
Objective: To identify the importance of the practice of palliative care in the treatment of terminal patients, aiming to understand and meet all the needs of the psycho-emotional, organic, social and spiritual spheres. Bibliographic review: It was observed that palliative care is of vital importance, since it is concerned with promoting the quality of life of patients and family members, with sensitivity to consider various aspects of the lives of these people, prepared in facing the adversities that involve terminal treatment. It is also important to point out that the multiprofessional presence is fundamental for a better understanding of the cases and an adequate clinical management, even if they occur inside hospital environments. Final considerations: Finally, the recognition of the union between Psychology and Medicine, for example, demonstrates that the well being of the patient cannot be limited in only one department of health, so the scientific community must be aware of the beneficial effects of the practice of palliative care as a form of treatment of active listening, integral attention, and concern for the basic right to human dignity.
