Abstract
Objective: Analyze the use of self-medication during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: An integrative literature review will be carried out on the National Library of Medicine search platform and the Virtual Health Library, following the following steps: 1) definition of the research question; 2) bibliographic survey; 3) Definition of the information selected and categorization of the studies; 4) Evaluation of the selected material; 5) Interpretation of the results. It is hoped that with the data from this study, it will be possible to identify the preponderant factors for the practice of self-medication during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: The study demonstrated that the main factors that led to self-medication during the COVID-19 pandemic were emotional and socioeconomic factors, as well as the treatment of current symptoms. The main medications used were analgesics, antibiotics, antiparasitic and vitamins, as well as knowledge acquired in traditional medicine. Final considerations: Patients presented fear and uncertainty about the disease as the main preponderant factors, as well as the recommendation of friends and family to use the practice as a prophylactic method, therefore it is necessary to educate the population regarding the practice of self-medication.
