Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological trends of hospitalizations due to leprosy in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) between 2023 and 2024. The study sought to identify temporal, geographic, and demographic patterns, with emphasis on sex, age group, municipality, and month of hospitalization. Methods: Secondary data from DATASUS and the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS) were used. Variables such as age group, sex, municipality, year, and month of hospitalization were analyzed, allowing for the identification of trends. Results: The analysis showed that the 30-69 age group concentrated the highest number of hospitalizations. The city of João Pessoa presented the majority of records, related to population factors and access to health services. In 2023, the months with the most hospitalizations were October and November, while in 2024 they were May and July. A predominance of males was also observed in both years, suggesting the influence of sociocultural factors. Conclusion: The results indicate that leprosy remains a relevant condition in Paraíba. The identification of patterns of higher incidence reinforces the need for epidemiological surveillance, promoting early diagnosis, and preventive measures.
