Abstract
Objective: To describe cases of burns and corrosions in young people and adults in Brazil from 2021 to 2025. Methods: Observational, descriptive, exploratory, and retrospective study, conducted using secondary data from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), available on DATASUS. All hospitalizations due to burns and corrosions occurring in the national territory were included. The analysis considered sociodemographic, clinical, temporal, and regional variables, as well as deaths, mortality rate, length of hospital stay, and costs, using descriptive statistics. Results: 90,747 hospitalizations were recorded, predominantly in the Southeast Region. Most cases were treated as emergencies, with a higher incidence among males and the 30-39 age group. The average mortality rate was 3.23%, with an average length of hospital stay of 7.1 days and costs exceeding R$ 193 million during the analyzed period. Conclusion: Burns and corrosions constitute a significant public health problem in Brazil, with a high clinical and economic impact, reinforcing the need for preventive strategies and strengthening the healthcare network.
