Abstract

Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile and persistent challenges in the management of acquired syphilis in residents of the municipality of Ijuí-RS between 2020 and 2024. Methods: This is a descriptive and quantitative study, carried out with the analysis of secondary data obtained from the Notifiable Diseases Information System and demographic data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics. The research investigated variables of sex, age group, and race, based on the criteria of the Clinical Protocol and Therapeutic Guidelines for Sexually Transmitted Infections of 2022. Results: A peak of 233 notifications was observed in 2022, with the highest concentration of cases in the 20-39 age group (125 occurrences). A predominance of white individuals was identified (172 cases in 2022), and a shift in the sex profile was observed, with a higher incidence among men in 2023. The standard treatment used in the municipality is benzathine penicillin, as recommended by national protocols. Conclusion: Acquired syphilis remains a public health challenge in Ijuí, with limitations in the study related to the possible underreporting of data in recent years.
