Abstract
This article sought to evaluate whether lower doses of vitamin D supplementation for less than the time recommended by the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabology (SBEM) could be sufficient to treat patients with vitamin D deficiency. This is a randomized, self-controlled, non-inferiority clinical trial carried out on a sample of non-obese adults and elderly in a city in Minas Gerais. The selected users were followed up for five weeks and divided into three groups, where the first was treated with 30,000 IU / week of cholecalciferol, the second with 50,000 IU / week of the same vitamin and the third did not receive replacement (control group). significant difference between the initial and final serum vitamin D values for the control group, however, both schemes tested were sufficient to achieve serum vitamin D levels above 30ng / mL in just five weeks, less than the time suggested by SBEM, even in the group with a lower dose than recommended.
