Abstract
The molar is an important and complex tooth located in the posterior part of the mandible, whose function is to macerate the food. This work consists of a review of the literature that addresses the early loss of the first permanent molar, presenting the importance of this tooth and the traits generated by its loss. One of the main causes of permanent first molar loss is the onset of dental caries, which results in gyrosurgery, arch shortening and perional problems. Based on our research, it was noted that the loss of the first permanent molar begins at age 8 and increases throughout life.
