Abstract
This article aimed to discuss through an integrative review the risk factors, the best diagnostic methods, the pathophysiology, the clinical implications, epidemiology and treatment of Ogilvie Syndrome to update the data about this pathology. Seventeen articles were reviewed in full to compose the data of this research. This condition consists of a dilation of a part of the colon or rectum without intrinsic obstruction. Its clinical presentation appears early, dilation can be visualized by simple radiography, but because it is a rare disease, it is hardly considered. Studies have advocated supportive therapy as the priority, but pharmacological can also be used and surgical only in case of failure of the previous ones. Thus, greater knowledge about this pathology is needed by physicians in order to provide the earliest possible therapeutic support and avoid possible complications.
